Codex Mashhad Most Complete Copy in Hijazi Kufic
This is according to Quran researcher and translator Morteza Kariminia, speaking at an expert forum held at the 31st Tehran International Quran Exhibition on Thursday evening.
He said the 252-page manuscript has been a focus of experts’ attention since nearly 100 years ago.
Compared to other copies that are mostly partial and include a few pages, this is the most complete copy dating back to the first Hijri century that is available, he added.
Referring to attempts in the West aimed at introducing historical distortions and doubts about the Quran, he said the Codex Mashhad, which has been proven, via expert methods such as radiocarbon dating, to date back to a time close to the Bi’that (appointment of Muhammad (PBUH) to prophethood), has dispelled these doubts and foiled such attempts.
He reiterated that the Codex Mashhad has special value and status among the Mus’hafs held at the Astan Quds Razavi library.
Seyed Ali Sarabi was another Quran expert speaking at the forum.
He said protecting and preserving Mus’hafs is a tradition that has been emphasized by the Infallible Imams (AS).
He also hailed the efforts made by the Astan Quds Razavi to collect and preserve old manuscript copies of the Quran and other religious books and introducing them to the Muslim world.

The 31st edition of the Tehran International Holy Quran Exhibition was officially launched in a ceremony on Wednesday evening, March 20.
The Tehran International Quran Exhibition is annually organized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in the holy month of Ramadan.
